Dr Ben Hamer

Dr Ben Hamer is an accredited futurist, who was recently awarded the number one thought leader for the Future of Work in the Asia-Pacific by Onalytica.

Ben has undertaken work and research around the world, including time spent leading critical projects at the World Economic Forum as well as being a Visiting Scholar at Yale University. He is an Adjunct Professor at Edith Cowan University’s School of Business and Law and a Non-Executive Director for the Australian HR Institute, where he was appointed as the youngest Non-Executive Director in the organisation’s history, as well as being on the Board of Netball NSW, which includes oversight of both the NSW Swifts and Giants professional netball teams.

A sought after media commentator and keynote speaker on future trends, Ben is the host of the ThinkerTank podcast, which is all about the trends shaping the way we will live, work and play in the future.

Distinguished Professor Jie Lu AO

UTS, Director of the Australian Artificial Intelligence Institute (AAII)

Distinguished Professor Jie Lu AO (Officer of the Order of Australia) is an internationally renowned scientist in the area of computational intelligence, who has made fundamental and influential contributions, particularly in fuzzy transfer learning, concept drift, data-driven decision support systems, and recommender systems. Her research has huge positive implications and significant impact on her research community and for society and economics.

An IEEE Fellow, IFSA Fellow, Australian Computer Society Fellow, and Australian Laureate Fellow in AI, Jie has published six research books and about 500 papers in leading journals and conferences, has won 10 ARC Discovery projects and ARC Laureate fellow project, and also led 15 ARC Linkage and industry projects. She has supervised 50 PhD students to completion.

As the Director of the Australian Artificial Intelligence Institute (AAII) at UTS, the largest AI centre in Australia with 35 researchers and 230 PhD students, Jie works at the frontier of the information age. Her research is helping shape the way organisations use data to make decisions in complex and uncertain situations.

Jie, who is also Associate Dean (Research Excellence) in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at UTS, has driven the faculty’s culture of research excellence and impact.

Effective prediction and decision making deliver direct benefits to industry and the community by increasing economic activity and helping organisations to manage risk. Jie has applied her expertise and theoretical innovation in this field in industry collaborations across a wide range of sectors, including transportation, telecommunications, health care and education.

Her projects include partnerships with Optus, Sydney Trains, Domain Holdings, Australia Ltd, Workforce Health Assessors and 23Strands, developing and implementing intelligent recommender systems and data-driven decision support systems.

She received the UTS Vice-Chancellor’s Research Medal for Research and Teaching Integration (2010), the UTS Chancellor’s Research Medal for Research Excellence (2019), the Computer Journal Wilkes Award (2018), the IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems Outstanding Paper award (2019 and 2022), the Australian Most Innovative Engineer award (2019), IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, NeurIPS 2022 Paper Award, Australasian AI Distinguished Research Contribution Award (2022) and Australian NSW Premier Prize on Excellence in Engineering or Information & Communication Technology (2023).

She delivers 40 keynote speeches at international conferences. She serves as Editor-In-Chief for leading journal Knowledge-Based Systems (Elsevier) since 2010.

Peter Coroneos

Peter Coroneos, Founder Cybermindz

Twice invited to the White House to brief Obama Administration cybersecurity leadership, Peter Coroneos is an internationally recognised authority on cyber policy, internet industry leader, author, activist and policy pioneer. He guided Australia’s policies on copyright, broadband, privacy, child safety, spam, critical infrastructure protection and cybercrime. 

Under his leadership, an industry-wide botnet mitigation program reached 92% population coverage in Australia in four months. Attracting the attention of the ‘Five Eyes’ security alliance, it served as a model of best practice and was adapted by the US telecommunications industry for the benefit of an estimated 276 million users. 

In 2022, Peter founded Cybermindz.org, a not-for-profit dedicated to bringing scalable, evidence based mental health support to embattled cyber teams. It is the world’s first application of the military-validated iRest protocol into cybersecurity. This groundbreaking work is building and powerfully restoring emotional and cognitive resilience and prevents burnout using a measurable, scalable, accessible and relevant format.

Meet veteran cyber OG, Eric Pinkerton or “Pinky” as he’s better known. With a career in security that started with punching holes in card whilst high on Halon gas, Pinky has seen it all. His journey through the evolving landscape of security has been marked by his snarky irreverent humour, and an uncanny ability to make even the most complex security concepts accessible and entertaining. The National Office of Cyber Security (NOCS) was established on 1 May 2023 to support the National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC) function. LTGEN Michelle McGuiness was appointed to this role on 26 February 2024.

The NOCS builds on the remit of the previously established Cyber Security Response Coordination Unit (CSRCU) and encompasses broader cyber policy functions from the Department of Home Affairs.

The Coordinator and the NOCS oversee efforts to ensure:

  • Australians are better protected
  • business and critical infrastructure entities are cyber resilient
  • delivery of the Australian Government’s mission to make Australia the most cyber secure nation in the world by 2030.

The National Cyber Security Coordinator, together with the National Office of Cyber Security, drives forward the necessary work to ensure Australia is best positioned to respond to the opportunities and threats of the digital age.

Uncle Allan Murray

Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council (MLALC)

Mr Allan Murray is a descendant of the Wiradjuri and Kamilaroi nation where his parents belong too. His father is a stolen generation, and he comes from the Cummunga village on the Murray River. His mother is from northwest of NSW, a little town ship called Walgett which is in the heart of the Kamilaroi nation.

Allan has held both the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson role of the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council and has been a member of the Land Council for more than 15 years. Mr Murray is backed by a solid board who are task to bring change, strive for economic and self determination to represent 17,000 Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people who reside in the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council boundaries.

He has several qualifications in business management and human resources practices. And hope to go forward in providing leadership to the members, more so to assist our youth and continue the recognition of our elders who are the gate keepers of knowledge, respect and wisdom.
